In a heartfelt gesture, Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a state-of-the-art digital repository at Wesley Girls Senior High School, dedicated to the memory of his mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia, an esteemed alumna of the institution’s 1960 cohort.
This advanced digital repository, equipped with cutting-edge technology, serves as a comprehensive system digitizing the school’s records, encompassing both historical and contemporary data of students and faculty. Accessible through unique access codes, former and current students, as well as staff members, can retrieve confidential personal information and general school data with ease.
Expressing profound appreciation during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Bawumia commended the initiative spearheaded by the Wesley Girls High School 1960 year group, who paid a condolence visit following his mother’s passing in 2021. Gratitude was extended to the delegation of old girls, led by Mrs. Nancy Thompson and Nana Kyeiwaa II, among others.
Reflecting on the genesis of the project, Dr. Bawumia recounted how, on the first anniversary of his mother’s demise, he was approached by the Old Girls’ Association to support the establishment of the digital repository. Recognizing the significance of preserving the school’s 187-year-old legacy, Dr. Bawumia contributed GHS 300,000.00 towards the initiative, facilitating the digitization of staff and student records.
Emphasizing the benefits of the digital repository, Dr. Bawumia highlighted its role in expediting the retrieval of essential school, staff, and student records. He underscored its value in a rapidly expanding institution like Wesley Girls’, ensuring prompt issuance of transcripts to meet academic and professional deadlines.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism regarding the repository’s potential to preserve historic documents, further enriching the narrative of Wesley Girls’ High School. He urged other educational institutions to emulate Wesley Girls’ example, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing digital initiatives in schools to equip Ghanaian youth for the challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
In recognition of his generosity, the 1960-year group, on behalf of the Old Students Association, presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Bawumia, underscoring the enduring bond between the Vice President and his late mother’s alma mater.
