The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has announced the suspension of its strike action against illegal mining, also known as galamsey, following a nationwide vote by its members. The decision, effective immediately, is part of UTAG’s sustained campaign against the destructive impact of galamsey on Ghana’s environment, water bodies, and affected communities.

While recognizing the challenges this decision may bring, UTAG remains committed to advocating for the preservation of Ghana’s natural resources. The association reassured the public that it will continue exploring alternative legal measures to combat illegal mining and protect the nation’s resources for future generations.
