The Upper East Region has received its first-ever FIFA-standard football pitch, made possible through a $742,000 investment from FIFA. The newly commissioned facility also houses the first GFA Elite Football Academy in the region.

Unveiled on April 15, 2025, the ceremony featured the presentation of Nissan 4×4 pickups to various Regional Football Associations. GFA President Kurt Okraku expressed deep appreciation to FIFA, emphasizing the pitch’s significance in the broader strategy to “fix the fundamentals” of Ghanaian football.

“The office in France, in Paris, has been very supportive of the Ghanaian FA in our agenda to fix the fundamentals, or the very foundation, of our football,” Okraku stated.

The project falls under the FIFA Forward initiative, which seeks to promote inclusive football development globally. This marks a historic milestone for the Upper East Region, which previously lacked a single FIFA-standard facility. The new pitch opens up opportunities for local youth to access world-class training and compete on a higher level.

The GFA Elite Football Academy at the site will offer both athletic and academic education, creating a nurturing environment for the next generation of Ghanaian football stars. This holistic model is expected to raise the bar for youth football and unlock new pathways for talent across the country.
