Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana and a member of the Advisory Council of Drive to Inspire-Africa (DTI-A), has called on corporate Ghana and philanthropists to support DTI-A’s efforts in removing financial barriers hindering the academic potential of some Ghanaian students.
Speaking as the special guest of honor at the official launch and fundraising program of DTI-A, held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, under the theme “Inspiring Minds, Empowering Youth, Transforming Africa,” Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo emphasized the importance of education as a fundamental right and a catalyst for social change, economic growth, and global progress.
She highlighted DTI-A’s goal to offer scholarships at the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, aiming to provide financial support to deserving students who lack the means to pursue tertiary education, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and stipends. Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo stressed the need for support from donors, philanthropists, corporate partners, and concerned citizens to achieve this vision.
She praised Nana Adjoa Hackman, the founder of DTI-A, for extending the organization’s vision beyond Ghana to a continental agenda. With KPMG as accountability partners, she assured donors that their support and donations to DTI-A would be used effectively.
