The University of Ghana has postponed the start of the 2024/2025 academic year due to an ongoing strike by several tertiary employee unions.
In a statement released on September 25, 2024, the university’s Registrar’s Office informed students and stakeholders about the delay, which affects the entire academic community.
While special programmes will proceed as scheduled, a new date for the general academic year will be announced once the situation stabilizes.
The strike involves key unions, including the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), who are demanding improved working conditions and resolution of issues like delayed pension contributions and unpaid allowances.
