A group of lecturers from the University of Ghana has publicly endorsed John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December 7 elections. In a statement issued on December 2, the academics praised the former president’s leadership and the NDC’s plans for national restoration, describing them as “clear and compelling.”
The group clarified that their endorsement is not politically motivated but based on professional evaluation.
“We have chosen to name John Mahama and the NDC not out of partisan fervor, but because the evidence of their superior vision and commitment to Ghana’s restoration is clear and compelling. Our endorsement stems not from political allegiance but from our professional judgment as analysts of policy and society.”
Drawing on Kwame Nkrumah’s call for universities to be the conscience of the nation, the lecturers expressed a moral duty to support leadership they believe can guide Ghana toward progress.
The group encouraged Ghanaians to vote for Mahama, emphasizing that his leadership would “restore hope, rebuild trust, and reignite the Ghanaian dream.”
“On December 7, 2024, let your thumb speak for Ghana. Vote John Mahama and the NDC to restore hope, rebuild trust, and reignite the Ghanaian dream.”
The endorsement underscores the role of intellectuals in shaping political discourse and highlights the weight of policy evaluation in influencing electoral choices.
