UDS Clears Student Prosper Kaba, Says He Is Victim in Tamale Robbery Case

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has clarified that its MPhil student, Prosper Kaba, was wrongly identified as a suspect in a recent robbery incident in Tamale.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Registrar, the University said Mr. Kaba is not involved in the crime but is instead a victim of misidentification, which has caused him reputational damage and emotional distress.

According to UDS, several media reports and social media posts incorrectly circulated Mr. Kaba’s image in connection with the robbery, despite him having no role in the incident.

The University stressed that Mr. Kaba was mistakenly linked to the case after his image, identified as the first person on the left in widely shared photos, was wrongly associated with alleged suspects.

UDS also raised concerns that one of the actual suspects may have been omitted in some reports, questioning the accuracy and completeness of the information published.

The institution has called on media organisations responsible for the error to retract their reports, issue an unqualified apology, and correct the narrative to reflect that Mr. Kaba is a victim, not a suspect.

It further urged journalists to uphold standards of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility, especially in cases that can significantly impact individuals’ reputations.
