
The Amanfro District Police Command under the Weija Division has arrested three men suspected of robbing passengers at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the suspects identified as Stephen Amoani, 42, Osei Antwi, 30, and Kwame Mike, were apprehended after a police team, acting on intelligence, stormed the robbery scene. One accomplice, identified as Kofi Sammy, reportedly escaped with a pump-action gun when the suspects attempted to flee.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of a cutlass concealed in the vehicle used by Osei Antwi, a black Honda CR-V with registration number DV 3145-2025. Police also retrieved three yellow gallons of akpeteshie, a bag containing GH¢12,055, and three mobile phones (Samsung A05, iPhone 16, and Itel Android), all suspected to be stolen items.
However, during detention, suspect Kwame Mike escaped police custody after requesting to use the washroom. The officer who escorted him is currently under investigation for administrative breaches.
On Monday, October 20, 2025, Stephen Amoani and Osei Antwi were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court. The charges were read and explained to them in Twi, which they understood, and both pleaded not guilty. The court remanded them into police custody to reappear on November 10, 2025.
Meanwhile, police efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two fugitives, Kwame Mike and Kofi Sammy, to aid in investigations. All recovered items have been kept as evidence, and the vehicle has been impounded.
The Accra Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and urged citizens to share credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and crime prevention efforts.
