Two Jailed 5 Years Each for Stealing Immigration Officer’s Ammunition

Two young men, Mustapha Basit (18) and Baba Rasid (22), have been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour by the Walewale Circuit Court for stealing ammunition belonging to an Immigration Officer.

The pair were charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing, to which they pleaded guilty. The court, presided over by Justice Francis Asobayeri, convicted them on their own plea on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

According to police reports, the convicts broke into the officer’s room around noon on Saturday, May 17, 2025, while he was away. They stole a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ten rounds and two CZ rifle magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds.

The police confirmed preparations are underway to transfer the convicts to prison to begin serving their sentences.
