The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Eric Obeng Darko, a former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.

The suspects, Mohammed Mubarak and Elizabeth Darkwah, both aged 38, were arrested on June 9 and June 17, 2025, respectively, and have since been arraigned before the Kodie and Suame District Courts.

According to a police statement, investigations revealed that in 2024, Ms. Darkwah allegedly defrauded Mr. Darko by promising to help him recover ancient family gold. She is said to have visited the deceased at his Bampenase residence near Mamponteng with Mubarak, where they dug up 20 pieces of a yellowish substance they claimed was gold. The pair told the victim that the “gold” needed purification at her church before it could be sold.

Afterward, Ms. Darkwah reportedly avoided Mr. Darko’s attempts to arrange the purification ritual. She allegedly conspired with Mubarak and three other suspects currently on the run to abduct and murder him before he could visit the church.

Investigators say the victim was taken to Aboabugya, and during an attempt to escape, he was deliberately run over by a Honda Odyssey driven by Mubarak, resulting in his death.

The two suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on July 4, 2025. A manhunt is underway for the remaining accomplices.
