Two men have been arrested for illegally digging a grave at the Osu Cemetery following intensified enforcement against unlawful burial activities at the site.

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly confirmed that the suspects, Eric Annan and Joseph Donkor, were apprehended on Sunday, February 8, 2026, by a security task force assigned to monitor the cemetery, in collaboration with the cemetery sexton.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Osu Police Station to assist with investigations and possible prosecution.

The arrests come days after the Municipal Chief Executive, Alfred Allotey Gaisie, addressed the media on Thursday, February 5, over verified reports of illegal exhumations, desecration of human remains, and the unauthorised sale of burial plots at the cemetery.

In response to the findings, authorities have suspended all burials at the Osu Cemetery for a period of two months. The suspension is intended to allow for a comprehensive audit of burial permits, verification of documentation and plots, and the restructuring of the cemetery’s management system.

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has urged the public to cooperate fully with ongoing investigations and warned that illegal and unethical activities at the cemetery will be dealt with firmly.
