A tragic incident during the Wulensi Fire Festival in the Nunumba South District of the Northern Region has resulted in the death of a Junior High School student.
The identity of the deceased student has not been revealed. The student died instantly when a musket he tried to fire exploded. The explosion occurred when he fired the musket into a gutter, causing it to backfire and strike him in the head.
The Fire Festival, celebrated to mark the start of the Islamic calendar, was intended to be a joyous event.
Despite warnings from authorities against using guns and other hazardous items, and calls for moderation during the celebrations, some individuals, particularly the youth, ignored these warnings, leading to this unfortunate incident.
The Assembly Member for Wulensi, Zebilla, confirmed the incident to Channel One News and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.
