The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, has taken firm steps to remove unauthorized vendors operating near the newly commissioned Flower Pot Interchange in Accra.
A widely circulated video shows Mr. Glover dismantling tables and chairs set up by hawkers who had disregarded earlier directives to vacate the area. This action is part of efforts to preserve the structural integrity and aesthetic value of the GH¢677 million project, designed to enhance traffic flow and connectivity on the Accra-Tema Motorway.
During the interchange’s commissioning on November 19, 2024, the minister issued a stern warning against setting up kiosks, containers, or any unauthorized structures around the facility. Despite the directive, vendors quickly returned to the site to resume operations.
The Spintex-Flower Pot Interchange features a dual carriageway viaduct and multiple ramps, aimed at easing congestion and improving travel between key areas such as Spintex, Cantonments, East Legon, and Tema.
Authorities have emphasized the need for public cooperation to maintain the facility’s efficiency and appeal. Additional measures are expected to prevent future encroachments and ensure compliance with regulations surrounding the interchange.
The minister’s decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding major infrastructure investments and promoting orderly urban development.
