Police in Accra have arrested three men for allegedly manufacturing and possessing locally made pistols in Shiashi, a suburb of the city.
The suspects — 24-year-old dispatch rider Patrick Gyimah, 27-year-old electrical welder Emmanuel Osei Yeboah, and 29-year-old private security guard Charles Somuah were picked up following a police patrol on August 7, 2025. Officers reportedly found a pistol in Gyimah’s pocket, which he claimed to have bought from Yeboah and Somuah for GH₵2,000, with an initial payment of GH₵800.
Police later arrested Yeboah and Somuah at their homes, seizing two more pistols, a toy gun, a BB 12 bore cartridge, and a jackknife. Yeboah allegedly admitted to making the firearms and selling one to Gyimah.
All three have been charged with offences under the Arms and Ammunition Act 1972 (NRCD 9) and have pleaded not guilty. They remain in custody and are expected back in court on August 22, 2025.
The police have cautioned against the illegal manufacture, sale, or possession of firearms and urged the public to report suspicious activity.
