A tragic accident at Gomoa Okyereko Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region has claimed the lives of three passengers, leaving 20 others in critical condition.
The incident, which occurred early Thursday morning, involved a VW Sprinter Benz Bus (registration number GW 5477-24) and a Hyundai Grace (registration number GR 5899-22).
According to an eyewitness, Kweku Atta, the Sprinter driver was heading to Takoradi, while the Hyundai Grace was en route from Winneba to Kasoa. The accident was reportedly caused by the Sprinter driver making a wrongful overtaking maneuver, resulting in a head-on collision.
The deceased include two male passengers and one female.
All 20 critically injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
The Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander, D02 Fredrick Adu-Poku, has urged drivers to avoid reckless overtaking, especially as the Christmas festivities approach. He noted that this accident could have been prevented with patience and careful driving.
