All three individuals who picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia Constituency have successfully passed the vetting process.
The aspirants include former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Henry Boakye (popularly known as Okoyo); the Akwatia Constituency Secretary, Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq.; and Erasmus Koney Ali, widely known by locals as Asanka Poyooyo.
The vetting exercise took place on Thursday, July 31, in Koforidua and was chaired by the party’s Deputy National Organiser, Kobby Balon, with support from the Director of Logistics and Protocol, Ludwig Hlodze.
After the vetting, a ballot was conducted to determine the order of candidates on the ballot paper. Bernard Bediako Baidoo secured the first slot, Erasmus Koney Ali the second, and Henry Boakye the third.
Addressing the media after the exercise, both Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Erasmus Koney Ali expressed optimism and a commitment to unity within the party.
“We know that by Monday late afternoon, one of us will emerge winner, and then we will all rally behind that person to make the party proud on September 2,” Baidoo said.
“With hard work, I can assure you I am winning,” Ali added.
Ludwig Hlodze described the process as smooth and transparent, urging supporters of the three candidates to unite behind whoever wins the primaries.
“We spoke to them to go there united. Only one person will win the primaries. We will all support that person to make sure we win the seat,” he said.
The NDC is approaching the by-election with what officials describe as a “reset agenda,” aiming to reclaim the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
