Three 18-year-old teenagers have each been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Atasemanso Circuit Court for their roles in a violent daylight armed robbery in Buobai, a community within the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
The convicts Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari were arrested during a coordinated intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti Regional Police Command with support from community volunteers. They were found hiding in Aboabo following the July 1 robbery.
According to police reports, the group comprising six individuals in total attacked several residents between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. while brandishing machetes and riding two unregistered motorbikes. The assailants made away with mobile phones, bags, and cash.
The three suspects were arraigned on Tuesday, July 8, and all pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm.
Issah was sentenced to 10 years each for the robbery charges and three years for causing harm, all to run concurrently. His accomplices, Takyi and Abubakari, received 10-year concurrent sentences.
The convicts have been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin their sentences. Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have intensified efforts to apprehend the remaining three suspects still on the run.
Police have commended the public for their cooperation and continue to encourage community involvement in maintaining safety and security.
