Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a senior aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed reports that his boss was evacuated from Qatar amid rising Middle East tensions, describing the claims as complete misinformation.
Earlier reports suggested that Dr Bawumia had been evacuated from Qatar to Saudi Arabia due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
However, speaking to Citi News on Wednesday, March 4, Miracles rejected the evacuation narrative, stating that the former Vice President was not under distress or threat.
He explained that Dr Bawumia had travelled to perform Umrah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, transiting through Doha, Qatar. Although Qatar temporarily closed its airspace due to hostilities, Saudi Arabia’s airspace remained open.
According to him, Ghana’s embassy in Qatar facilitated Dr Bawumia’s onward journey as part of routine diplomatic courtesies typically extended to senior state officials. He added that the former Vice President travelled by road from Qatar to Saudi Arabia and is currently in the Kingdom to perform Umrah.
Miracles emphasised that there was no emergency evacuation and described reports suggesting otherwise as exaggerated.
