Ghanaian defender Denis Odoi has voiced his disappointment regarding the goals conceded by the Black Stars during the 2023 AFCON, describing them as inexplicable. Odoi, who plays for Club Brugge, openly criticized the team’s defensive lapses, labeling the two goals conceded against Mozambique in the final group game as “stupid.” According to him, these defensive mistakes have hindered the team’s competitiveness in the tournament.

As the competition advances, Ghana finds itself in a precarious position, with their chances of progressing to the round of 16 relying on intricate calculations. The team must secure a spot among the top four third-placed teams, though the odds seem unfavorable.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Odoi remarked, “If you look at the goals we conceded, we can’t say we deserve any more. It’s just about the goals we conceded; they are stupid. If you give away the balls like that, we cannot compete.”
