The Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) has rejected calls from the National Labour Commission (NLC) to suspend its ongoing nationwide strike.
The union began the indefinite strike on Friday, September 19, 2025, citing government delays in signing their conditions of service. TEWU further accuses the government of neglecting the welfare of non-teaching staff in the education sector.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, September 23, National Chairperson Salamatu Mahamah Braimah stressed that members will not return to work until their demands are fully addressed.
“Until we conclude and sign the conditions of service, we will not come to class. The NLC themselves know that we went by the rules, and this is never illegal. We have given them the chronology of events. So why is NLC writing to us?” she stated.
The strike continues to disrupt academic activities nationwide, with TEWU standing firm on its demands.
