Tensions have escalated in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency as Lydia Alhassan, the incumbent Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, distributed food packs to voters during the Special Voting exercise.
The distribution occurred at the Legon Police Station, a designated polling station for the exercise. Alhassan and her team provided the food to voters waiting in line, which drew sharp criticism from her political rival, John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate.
Dumelo condemned the action as a violation of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) rules, describing it as unethical and potentially compromising the integrity of the voting process.
“This act undermines the principles of fairness and integrity in the electoral process,” Dumelo stated, urging the EC to take action against any attempts to influence voters during the election period.
The incident has added tension to the highly contested race in the constituency, as both candidates vie for victory in the December 7 general elections.
