Telecel Ghana has responded to a lawsuit filed by Madam Faustina Djagbele Abbey, who claims the telecom giant used her photograph without consent in a promotional campaign for its digital savings product, Telecel Red Save.
In a brief public statement, the company acknowledged the legal action and said it is currently reviewing the matter. “We are currently reviewing the details of this claim to establish the facts,” Telecel stated, adding that it treats issues of privacy, image consent, and intellectual property with utmost seriousness.
The lawsuit, filed on May 23, 2025, through Madam Abbey’s lawyer Bernard Owiredu Donkor of Thompson Law Consult, alleges that her image was used across various platforms, including social media, without her knowledge or permission.
According to the statement of claim, the unauthorized use of her photo violated her right to privacy and personal freedoms. Madam Abbey also argues that the exposure caused people around her to assume she had received significant financial gain, which negatively affected her relationships and mental health.
The case highlights increasing public scrutiny of advertising practices and the legal responsibilities companies face when using individuals’ images, especially in the digital space, where content spreads rapidly.
Telecel Ghana, one of the country’s leading telecommunications providers, says it will provide updates as the legal process unfolds.
