Teacher Remanded After Flogging Pupil to Death in Anambra

One Faith Nwoye, a primary school teacher at Landmark International School in Mgbakwu, Anambra State, Nigeria, has been remanded in a correctional facility following the tragic death of her eight-year-old pupil, Henry Okonkwo, whom she reportedly flogged.

The incident prompted legal action after a petition was filed against the school’s Proprietor, Promise Iloh, and the teacher, by Ojiakor Okonkwo. The case was brought before a special court handling women and children-related matters, where the teacher was remanded.

Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, ordered the immediate closure of Landmark International School pending a thorough investigation into the matter. The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern and calls for stricter regulations and oversight in schools to safeguard students’ welfare and prevent abuse.
