A group of students from Christian Methodist Senior High School (Chrimeto) in New-Aplaku, Greater Accra Region, allegedly attacked teachers for preventing them from cheating during the ongoing 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The students reportedly threw stones and sachet water at the teachers after an integrated science exam on Monday, September 16, 2024.
One of the victims, Walter Yesutor Adanunyo, recounted the ordeal in an interview on Ghana Tonight with Alfred Ocansey. Mr. Adanunyo revealed that he was targeted for being strict in the exam room, leading to threats of harm from some students.
Following the threats, the school’s headmaster called the police, who arrived to disperse the crowd. However, the attacks resumed the next day when police were absent.
Mr. Adanunyo, along with two other permanent teachers and two service personnel, attempted to leave the school but were ambushed by students who accused him of preventing cheating.
Four students were later arrested, although Mr. Adanunyo was unsure if they were the ones who confronted him.
This incident echoes a similar attack at Bright Senior High School in the Eastern Region during a previous WASSCE exam, highlighting ongoing concerns about student misconduct during national examinations.
