A fire tender from the Tamale Metro Fire Station sustained partial damage after it caught fire while responding to an emergency at Sakpaligu, a suburb of Tamale along the Savelugu Highway.

The appliance, DPT No. FS 450, was dispatched at 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2026, with an eight-member crew led by Station Officer I Mohammad Gadafi. At about 9:45 a.m., while en route to the scene, the vehicle developed a fire, compelling the driver to steer it off the road into a ditch.

The crew quickly acted to contain and extinguish the flames. No injuries were reported.

Despite the swift response, the fire tender sustained partial damage to the underside of the rear offside axle.

A backup appliance from the Sagnarigu Fire Station was immediately deployed to continue operations at the original emergency scene.

The damaged vehicle has since been towed to the Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service for further assessment and action.

The incident is expected to strain firefighting operations in the region, which already faces a limited number of functioning fire tenders.
