Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has commissioned a newly constructed bridge over the Offin River in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, describing the project as a symbol of restored safety, renewed hope, and a fulfilled government promise.

The new bridge replaces an old, weakened structure that had posed a major risk to commuters, particularly farmers transporting produce from Kotokuom and nearby communities to urban centres. Years of wear from heavy-duty trucks had left the previous bridge fragile, with broken beams, cracks, and damaged pillars.

Following engineers’ assessment that the structure was unsafe, Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza ordered its closure on March 3, 2025.

“We are gathered here not just to commission a piece of infrastructure, but to celebrate the restoration of safety, the renewal of hope, and the fulfilment of a promise made to this community,” Suhuyini said during the ceremony.

He recalled how the old bridge became a “death trap that threatened livelihoods,” with viral images on social media intensifying calls for urgent intervention.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, joined Suhuyini to officially hand over the project to the community.
