In a distressing news, the police in Suhum, situated in the Eastern Region of Ghana, have initiated a relentless manhunt for a 22-year-old Okada rider, identified as Akooko, who stands accused of poisoning his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Matilda Dankwa. The incident occurred in the quiet community of Koransang within the Suhum Municipality.
Matilda Dankwa, a recent graduate of Junior High School (JHS) and the young woman at the center of this tragedy, was allegedly in a romantic relationship with Akooko. Sources suggest that when Matilda became pregnant, Akooko urged her to terminate the pregnancy, a request she vehemently declined.
On the fateful day, Monday, Matilda was picked up by Akooko on his motorcycle. Tragically, a mere half an hour later, she was discovered with foam emanating from her mouth, raising suspicions of poisoning.
Ransford Norvor, the Assemblyman for Koransang, conveyed the heart-wrenching details of the incident to the media, stating, “The deceased completed school this year. Her name is Matilda Dankwa. According to an eyewitness, around 4 pm yesterday, her boyfriend picked her up from home, and the news of her death was received within 30 minutes after they left.”
He added, “The eyewitness said the deceased was pregnant but her boyfriend wanted her to abort it, which she refused, so it is alleged that he poisoned her. So only the police can determine that because we can’t tell what really happened.”
In response to this tragic incident, the Suhum police have promptly launched an investigation into the matter. They are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in locating and apprehending the suspect, Akooko, who is currently on the run.
This harrowing incident has left the community in shock and mourning for the untimely loss of a young life, and all eyes are now on the police investigation to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Matilda Dankwa’s tragic demise.
