“Stop Destroying Our Billboards”  – NDC Sends Strong Message to NPP

The Mahama 2024 Campaign has issued a warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to cease any attempts to dismantle or hinder the billboards of its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, or other National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidates.

The campaign team revealed that the Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) recently dismantled a Mahama billboard erected by Alliance Media in Tema. The campaign described this act as “unacceptable” and a “needless provocative attempt to raise the political temperature in the country.”

Alliance Media, a registered Ghanaian advertising company, legally mounts Out-of-Home (OOH) and Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) billboards nationwide, paying the required fees to TMA and other assemblies. The Mahama 2024 Campaign stated that it was unacceptable for the TMA chief executive to remove a legally placed billboard that had been rented and paid for by the Mahama Campaign.

The campaign team expects Alliance Media to pursue legal action against the TMA but also issued a warning to the TMA boss and NPP, stating that such actions, which provoke political clashes and violence, harm the growth of democracy.

A similar incident was noted in the Ablekuma North constituency, where the NPP blocked a billboard mounted by an NDC parliamentary candidate. Despite these provocations, institutions like the National Peace Council and various civil society organizations are observing the situation.

The Mahama 2024 Campaign cautioned that such acts would no longer be tolerated and warned that if they persist, they would instruct their members to take necessary measures to prevent such occurrences nationwide.

They called on the NPP to conduct their campaign peacefully and respect the rights of others to advertise their political candidates and messages.

The campaign emphasized that violence and property destruction have no place in political discourse. President Mahama, in an opinion piece on Tuesday, stressed the importance of “peace and decorum in our political discourse,” especially in the lead-up to the high-stakes December elections.
