Stonebwoy Dropped from NDC Victory Concert

Renowned Reggae/Dancehall star Stonebwoy has been excluded from the lineup of performers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Victory Concert, set to take place on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

The decision to remove the award-winning musician was made just days before the event, following widespread backlash from party supporters at the grassroots level.

Initially announced as one of the headlining performers for the concert, Stonebwoy’s inclusion sparked heated debates on social media under the trending hashtag #DropStonebwoy. Critics argued that the artiste’s participation was inappropriate due to his perceived detachment from the NDC’s values and alleged previous associations with other political factions.

Party loyalists voiced concerns that the performers for the celebratory event should embody the party’s ideals and have demonstrated consistent support for its vision and campaign efforts. Many saw the concert as a significant moment to commemorate the NDC’s victory in the December 7 elections, making it vital for the chosen artistes to align closely with the party’s principles.

Responding to the controversy, the organisers of the NDC Victory Concert issued an official statement on Friday, January 3, addressing the issue.

“Taking into account the concerns raised by our grassroots supporters and the broader public, we have made the decision to withdraw Stonebwoy from the performance lineup. We extend our sincerest apologies to members of the National Democratic Congress, particularly those at the grassroots level, for what may have been perceived as a lapse in judgment on the part of the organisers,” the statement read.
