The Ghanaian government has officially withdrawn treason felony charges against Oliver Barker-Vormawor, marking the end of more than two years of legal proceedings related to his alleged plans to stage a coup d’état.
Barker-Vormawor, a leading activist and convener of the #FixTheCountry movement, was initially charged after making controversial statements following the passage of the E-levy. However, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has decided to discontinue the case as part of a broader review of high-profile criminal prosecutions.
Dr. Ayine, speaking at a press conference, stated that the decision aligns with a new legal approach aimed at reassessing politically sensitive cases. Alongside Barker-Vormawor’s case, the Attorney General has also dropped charges against former COCOBOD CEO Dr. Stephen Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo, as well as former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama.
On Monday, Dr. Ayine confirmed to Citi News that the charges had been officially dropped, signaling a shift in the state’s legal priorities.
