Minister for Youth, Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced disappointment over the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, warning that Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is far from guaranteed.

His remarks add to mounting scrutiny of the national team’s technical bench as fans demand more convincing performances ahead of upcoming international tournaments.

The Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Chad on Friday, September 5, before narrowly edging Mali 1-0 on Monday, September 8. Despite the win, Mr. Adams said the overall display was unconvincing.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 10, the Sports Minister raised concerns about Ghana’s inconsistency in the qualifiers.

“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us,” he stated.

He stressed that Otto Addo’s leadership has not lived up to expectations.

“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” Mr. Adams asked.
