South African police have arrested three individuals in connection with the brutal killing of 18 family members, mostly women, who were gunned down at a rural homestead in the Eastern Cape province on September 28, 2024.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed the arrests during a memorial held near the scene of the massacre, while authorities continue to search for a fourth suspect.
The attack occurred in the early hours at two homes in Lusikisiki, approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Durban. Gunmen opened fire, killing 17 people at the scene, with an 18th victim dying later in the hospital.
The victims ranged in age from 14 to 64, with 15 of them being women, many shot in the head. The motive behind the attack, which took place during a traditional family ceremony, remains unclear.
