President John Dramani Mahama has announced a significant increase in Ghana’s health sector financing, revealing that total health funding has risen to GH₵34.7 billion from GH₵23.3 billion recorded in 2023.
Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President outlined his administration’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and reduce reliance on external funding.
He stated that the increase represents a deliberate policy shift toward stronger domestic investment in the health sector.
According to President Mahama, direct government funding will account for about 72 percent of total health spending in 2026, up from 56.8 percent in 2023. Core health allocations have risen to GH₵23.3 billion, and when National Health Insurance resources are included, overall health financing now stands at GH₵34.7 billion.
He described the development as clear evidence of the government’s commitment to domestic financing and health sovereignty.
