President John Mahama has announced plans to integrate short military training into the National Service Scheme (NSS) to enhance discipline and physical fitness among the youth.
Delivering the 2025 State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, Mahama emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the legal framework governing national service.
“I have tasked the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment to present a legislative instrument to Parliament to support the implementation of the newly passed National Service Authority Act 2024 (Act 119),” he stated.
Additionally, Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s stance against corruption within the NSS, revealing ongoing investigations into a ghost names scandal.
“As part of ORAL, I have ordered investigations to bring the culprits in the national service ghost names scandal to justice,” he added.
