Former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Solomon Asamoah, has dismissed claims that he fled to Senegal to avoid prosecution in the ongoing Sky Train scandal.

The allegations were made by Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, who stated in a press conference on Monday, March 24, that Mr. Asamoah had left Ghana on February 2, first traveling to South Africa before relocating to Senegal to evade justice.

However, in a March 24 statement, Asamoah described these claims as false and misleading, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and cooperation with the authorities.

Solomon Asamoah clarified that he departed Ghana on Friday, March 21, 2025, to attend pre-scheduled board meetings abroad as part of his corporate responsibilities.

He further stated that before his departure, no government official had reached out to him regarding any investigation.

“In fact, I traveled out of Ghana on Friday 21st March 2025 to attend scheduled board meetings as part of a corporate responsibility that was planned well in advance. Prior to my departure, I had been present in Ghana for long periods in both February and March. During this period, I was never contacted by any government official in relation to an invitation to assist in any investigation,” he explained.

Asamoah acknowledged that on Saturday, March 22, 2025—a day after he left Ghana—he was contacted via WhatsApp by an official from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) requesting an online meeting.

“On Saturday, 22nd March 2025, a day after departure from Accra, I was indeed contacted via WhatsApp by an official of the National Intelligence Bureau who requested an online meeting with me, which we agreed to hold on Wednesday, 26th March at 4 pm. This would enable me to respond to any misconceptions and misunderstandings on any substantive matter related to investments by GIIF,” he added.

The Sky Train project, which was initiated under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has been marred by financial irregularities, with authorities seeking to retrieve $2 million allegedly paid under questionable circumstances.

While the Attorney General insists Asamoah is avoiding prosecution, the former GIIF CEO maintains that he remains open to cooperating with authorities and addressing any concerns about the project.
