Elorm Ababio, widely known on social media as Ama Governor, has been officially admitted to the Ghana Bar after facing two years of rejection.
Miss Ababio was among 181 individuals who were recently sworn in as new lawyers during a ceremony where they were awarded their certificates.
A video circulating on social media shows Ama Governor in her legal attire, walking to the podium, bowing to dignitaries, and receiving her certificate.
This event is a major achievement for Ama Governor, coming after two years of disputes with the General Legal Council (GLC), which had previously denied her admission to the Bar.
Initially, the GLC listed her on the notice board of the Ghana School of Law as one of the candidates to be called to the Bar on May 31.
The official notice from the Ghana School of Law read: “The list of persons qualified to be called to the bar per a notice issued under the hand of the Director of the Ghana School of Law is not exhaustive and may change upon the attention of the General Legal Council drawn to certain irregularities.”
This milestone comes after her denials in both 2022 and 2023.
A graduate of the Ghana School of Law, Ama Governor drew significant online attention in 2022 and 2023 due to her exclusion from the Bar.
The General Legal Council had cited “conduct unbecoming of an applicant to be called to the Bar” as the reason for her previous rejections.
This decision sparked a public debate, with some supporting the GLC’s actions while others, including social media users and Ama Governor’s fans, criticized the council’s decision.
