Kojo Peprah, Chairman of the Small Scale Miners Association, has been arrested by the IGP’s Special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce for obstructing an operation against illegal mining in the Desiri Forest Reserve in the Ashanti Region.

According to police reports, Peprah confronted members of the taskforce during an active anti-galamsey operation, demanding to know their mission in the forest. He claimed he had received reports that the taskforce had entered his mining site within the reserve.

Law enforcement officials clarified that mining licenses granted to small-scale operators do not permit activities within forest reserves making any such operation illegal.
