Wilson Arthur, the owner of Skyy FC, is considering leaving club football due to what he perceives as referee dishonesty. In an interview with Akoma FM, Arthur expressed frustration over several referees’ decisions that he believes unfairly favored opposing teams.
“After 22 games in Division One, I can say that approximately eight referees came specifically to sabotage my team. Everything about the way they officiated the game suggested that the referee was there to hurt me,” Arthur said.
He added that his interest in funding club football is waning, citing the experiences of other club owners like Tony Yeboah and Kessben, who quit due to similar issues with referees.
“I’m unable to make investments or start club football again because I will undoubtedly be cheated in the end,” Arthur remarked.
Arthur, who also serves as the MTN FA Cup Chairman, claimed to have lodged a formal complaint with the association but has received no response, which has made him feel unwelcome in club football.
“Although I formally complained to the FA, but received no response. My iPad was destroyed and my coach was beaten by Holy Stars. It was more like a war against Sefwi All Stars,” he stated.
Arthur expressed disappointment, stating, “I’ve realized that funding club football will not benefit me going forward, rather, it feels like I’m not welcome there, so I need to find something else to do.”
Skyy FC is currently ranked sixth in Zone 2 of the Division One league with 34 points, with slim hopes of making it to the top-flight league despite aiming to gain promotion due to last season’s narrow miss.
