Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and key accused in the ongoing Sky Train trial, remains in custody after failing to meet bail conditions imposed a week ago.
Asamoah, along with former GIIF Board Chair Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, faces charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state by authorising an unauthorized \$2 million transfer to Africa Investor Holdings for the proposed Sky Train project, which saw no work done.
Despite being granted bail of GH¢15 million with two sureties—both required to justify with landed property in Accra—Asamoah has not yet fulfilled the terms.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, absent at the initial court sitting due to health issues, was again missing during the May 20 session. His lawyer cited a fresh medical emergency as the cause. The judge, Justice Comfort Tasiame, voiced concern over the pattern of absences aligning with court dates.
The court adjourned the case to Monday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m., with the prosecution hinting at a potential change in strategy regarding the board chair’s continuous absence.
