Simon Madjie has been named the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), taking over from Dr. Bernice Makafui Brempong, who served in the role for only two weeks.
Dr. Brempong’s sudden reassignment has sparked curiosity, as no official explanation has been provided by the government. However, sources suggest she has been reassigned to a strategic role at the Jubilee House, the seat of government. The details of her new position remain undisclosed, fueling speculation about the circumstances behind the leadership change.
Dr. Brempong, an economist and public policy expert, was appointed to GIPC with the expectation of driving investment and economic growth. Despite her short tenure, she was seen as a key figure in advancing Ghana’s investment agenda.

Simon Madjie, the newly appointed CEO, brings extensive experience in investment promotion and trade facilitation. Prior to this role, he served as the Executive Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Ghana, where he played a crucial role in strengthening trade relations between Ghana and the United States.
With over a decade of expertise in fostering investment partnerships, Madjie is well-regarded in international trade circles. He is an Abshire-Inamori International Leadership Fellow from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., a fellow of the Institute of International Affairs, Ghana, and a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
During his tenure at AmCham Ghana since 2009, he facilitated numerous high-profile investment projects and led advocacy efforts for U.S. companies operating in Ghana. He also coordinated the Chamber’s AfCFTA Resource Center, providing critical insights on Africa’s largest trade agreement to international businesses.
Madjie has contributed to the establishment of AmChams in Ethiopia, Angola, The Gambia, and Côte d’Ivoire, and served as a judge for the 2022 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Africa Digital Competition, which spotlighted top African tech startups.
He holds a master’s degree in International Trade Law from the University of Turin and has received training from institutions such as the European University Institute, the United Nations Convention on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
