Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has revealed that he could consider contesting the parliamentary seat in Ablekuma South if residents call on him to serve.

Speaking during an interview on the Ekosiisen programme on Asempa FM on Wednesday, March 11, the musician, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, said he would only contest as an independent candidate.

According to him, he would not force himself into politics unless there is a genuine call from the people in the constituency.

“I love Ghana so much. If the people of Ablekuma call me, I will definitely go. But I won’t say because I have money now, I’m coming to contest. When they call, I will go, but as an independent candidate,” he said.

The artiste explained that his thoughts about leadership were partly inspired by a television series he recently watched about Moses.

He said the story reminded him that leadership should sometimes come in response to a call from the people rather than personal ambition.

Shatta Wale also stressed that if he eventually enters politics, he would not align himself with any political party.

“Most definitely, but I don’t want to belong to any political party. I want to be myself,” he stated.

The musician further argued that Ghana’s governance framework needs reforms, suggesting that the country must move beyond the structures established under the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

According to him, any future political ambition would be driven by policies aimed at improving governance and development.

For now, however, he said his main focus remains on his personal life and music career, although he has not ruled out the possibility of entering politics in the future.
