Several students from Ben Kunadu SDA Basic School in Asante Akyem are feared dead after their school bus crashed on the Aseseeso stretch between Adukrom and Somanya.
The tragic incident occurred while the bus, carrying 62 students on an excursion to Akosombo, was descending a hill. Reports indicate that the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to somersault before landing on its side.
Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey, who happened to be passing by, immediately joined the rescue efforts, assisting in transporting injured students to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital.
Emergency response teams, including the Police, Fire Service, and Ambulance personnel, are currently at the scene working to recover trapped victims and provide medical assistance.
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, but eyewitnesses fear multiple fatalities.
