A violent attack by alleged Techiman youth on buses returning from Nkoranza to Kumasi left multiple individuals injured, including a child, on Monday evening. The buses were part of a convoy that had earlier escorted the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to a funeral in Nkoranza.
The attack reportedly stemmed from escalating tensions between the Techiman youth and the Asanteman convoy. Before the funeral, threats were issued by Techiman youth, warning against the use of the route through Techiman.
The confrontation is believed to have been triggered by an earlier incident at Amamfom, where the Asanteman convoy allegedly blocked the highway and chanted provocations, including, “There is no man in Techiman.” This act was said to have incited anger among the Techiman youth, culminating in the attack.
Victims of the violence are currently receiving medical care, while the police have yet to issue a formal statement on the matter. The incident has heightened tensions between the two communities, raising concerns over potential further escalations.
