A total of 71 fishermen who were attacked by armed men at sea off Senya Breku in the Central Region have been successfully rescued.
The victims were brought ashore in batches through a joint operation involving the Marine Police and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Authorities confirmed that all the rescued fishermen are safe.
The rescue mission was initiated after reports indicated that several fishermen had been left stranded at sea following the attack.
Preliminary accounts suggest the fishermen had embarked on their routine fishing expedition in the early hours of Thursday, February 26. While returning to shore, they were allegedly ambushed by armed men travelling in a black boat.
The attackers reportedly fired gunshots and made away with outboard motors and generator sets, leaving the fishermen stranded in the water.
The incident has heightened concerns among coastal fishing communities, where residents say such attacks are becoming more frequent, prompting renewed calls for intensified security patrols at sea.
