Sammy Gyamfi Files GH¢10 Million Defamation Lawsuit Against Asaase Radio and ABC News

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Asaase Radio and ABC News. The legal action follows a publication by these media outlets titled “NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi allegedly blows party cash on lavish trip to Miami with wife,” which Gyamfi claims is defamatory.

In his lawsuit, Mr. Gyamfi is seeking GH¢10 million in damages from the two media houses.

The publication alleged that Mr. Gyamfi and his wife were spending NDC funds on a luxurious two-week stay at the Betsy Hotel in Miami. The hotel, known for its opulent amenities, charges US$3,000 per day, amounting to a total of US$42,000 for the entire stay. The reports have caused a stir among NDC activists, who expressed their frustration and demanded an explanation for the alleged misuse of party funds.

The Betsy Hotel, South Beach, is renowned for its 5-star facilities, including a fitness center, sun terrace, rooftop pool, and spa services. The hotel is also known for its beachfront location, evening entertainment, and diverse dining options. The luxurious accommodations are equipped with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, guests can engage in activities like yoga classes, walking tours, and cycling.

The allegations have sparked outrage among NDC supporters, with many questioning the source of the funds used for the trip. One NDC activist voiced their anger on social media, calling the expenditure an extreme form of extravagance and demanding Mr. Gyamfi explain the origin of the money spent on the trip.

The lawsuit is ongoing, and Mr. Gyamfi is pursuing significant damages to address the harm he believes the publication has caused to his reputation.
