The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George, has instructed the Acting Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate action against six radio stations operating without valid frequency authorizations.

Citing violations of Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), the minister directed the shutdown of the following entities:

1. Fire Group of Companies, Sunyani – 90.1MHz

2. I-Zar Consult Limited, Tamale – 89.7MHz

4. Okyeame Radio Limited, Bibiani – 99.7MHz

5. Mumen Bono Foundation, Techiman – 99.7MHz

6. Osikani Community FM, Nkrankwanta – 99.7MHz

In a statement on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the Communications Ministry explained that these entities had either failed to renew their authorizations, fulfill statutory payment obligations, or submit the required documentation within the stipulated timeframe.

As a result, their licenses have lapsed, making their continued operations illegal.

Under Act 775, broadcasting without a valid frequency authorization is unlawful. The NCA has been tasked with taking necessary measures to halt all unauthorized transmissions and enforce compliance.

The Ministry also announced that its review of the frequency authorization audit is ongoing, with further directives expected in due course. All broadcasters are urged to comply with the terms of their authorizations to avoid similar enforcement actions.
