A 24-year-old sales agent, Kelvin Ofori Sakyi, has been sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labor for misappropriating GH¢75,895 belonging to his employer, Obrempong Cold Store, in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
The Tarkwa Circuit Court, presided over by Hathia Ama Manu, found Sakyi guilty of dishonestly appropriating company funds, which he admitted to using for sports betting.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joyce Odame, the complainant, Priscilla Aidoo, who manages the Mile 8 branch of Obrempong Cold Store, discovered inconsistencies in Sakyi’s sales accounts. Whenever there was a shortage, he claimed that customers had bought on credit.
A detailed audit between October and November 2024 revealed that Sakyi could not account for nearly GH¢76,000 worth of frozen products. Upon his arrest, investigations confirmed that he had used the funds for betting, with his MTN mobile money records showing transactions totaling GH¢75,173 on sports betting within the same period.
Sakyi pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced accordingly.
