The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers has directed its members nationwide to suspend the recently proposed increase in sachet water prices and immediately revert to the previous pricing structure.
The decision comes amid growing public concern over the planned adjustment, which had sparked widespread debate among consumers, retailers, and stakeholders across the water production value chain.
Sachet water remains a vital and affordable source of drinking water for many households in Ghana, making any changes in pricing highly sensitive and impactful on daily living.
The directive follows a high-level meeting between the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and representatives of the Plastic Manufacturers Association on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Discussions during the meeting centered on rising production costs, the potential burden on consumers, and the need to maintain price stability while broader consultations continue.
Speaking after the engagement, the association’s president, Magnus Nunoo, stressed the importance of full compliance with the directive.
He called on all producers and distributors who had already implemented the new prices to immediately revert to the old rates in the interest of fairness and consumer protection.
“Effective immediately, sachet water price reverses to its original price. The prices as they were before stand, and the new price has been officially reversed,” he stated.
The move is expected to bring relief to consumers already grappling with rising living costs, while also allowing time for continued dialogue between government and industry players on sustainable pricing solutions.
