Six people have been rescued, while several others are feared drowned, after a boat carrying displaced persons capsized on the Black Volta at Dinie Tuonbo in the Savannah Region.
According to reports, the victims were attempting to cross the river when the overloaded vessel overturned.
A joint rescue team made up of personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security agencies has since been deployed to the area to search for survivors and recover bodies.
The tragic incident comes in the wake of violent clashes at Gbinyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, which left six people dead and 18 others injured on Sunday, August 17, following a land dispute.
