A violent robbery attack at Buduatta Junction on the Winneba Highway on the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, has left three passengers injured and receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, the robbers ambushed vehicles traveling along the highway and forcibly robbed several passengers of cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.
The situation escalated when the armed assailants opened fire on a Toyota Hiace minibus whose driver attempted to speed past the scene. Three passengers on board were hit by bullets and sustained varying degrees of injuries.
A prompt response from police led to the arrest of one suspect, who was found with several stolen mobile phones believed to belong to victims of the attack. The suspect is in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
This latest incident has reignited public concern over the security of commuters along the Winneba corridor, particularly the Potsin Junction–Okyereko stretch, which has gained notoriety for frequent robbery cases.
Police believe the robbers have shifted their operations to less-patrolled zones like Buduatta Junction due to heightened security in previously targeted areas.
Central East Regional Police Commander ACP Francis Nchor told Citi News that ongoing road construction and the presence of speed ramps are slowing down vehicles, making them easier targets and limiting the speed of police response.
